Good Luck Food

Every year I make the "good luck" New Years Day food.
In my childhood home we always had pork and sauerkraut.  They say the pork is for progress, wealth and prosperity.
When I moved south I learned about greens and black-eyed peas with smoked hog jowl.
The greens (I prefer collards) represent money and the peas coins, and I would guess the hog jowl would be the same as pork.  I love all these dishes and love making them and of course eating them!
Hope all of you who read this have a prosperous, safe and happy new year.  Thank all of you who follow and leave comments.

That really looks scrumptious! I've heard about the black eyed peas but not the rest. But I like it all especially the greens. Happy New Year to you!

I have always heard that lentils are the good luck food of the New Year. I have no way to back that up, but when I stopped in the grocery store late this afternoon, there was not a single lentil to be found. The entire shelf was cleaned out. Hopefully it will be a lucky year for many a Long Islander! I, on the other hand, had to settle for split pea soup!

They all look delicious! I always have a ham, black eyed peas, and cabbage, just in case there is anything to it. :) Happy New Year!

This is new to me, but it looks delicious.

Here in France, for New Year's Eve, we (not me) eat our 'réveillon' meal backwards. We start with the desert, then cheese, then main course, then entrée, then soup, and finally a wee aperitif.

I know, I know; you always knew the French were nuts!

As a good southerner I always eat my black-eyed peas on new years. Hope they bring you a wonderful new year full of lots of good health and happiness.
