Some weird looking fungus.

I was "piddling'" around outside on one of the few no rain days and came across this odd looking fungus.  We have had so much rain that fungus is popping up everywhere.  This is a first for me to see this type.  I have not researched it to see what exactly it is, but it feels like a mushroom.  It is just "stuck" on the side of the tree.

Looks "hairy" doesn't it?

When I first noticed it, it had this dead stick stuck in it.

I think it's 'Hericium erinaceus'. It's usually found on Beech trees. If I'm right it's edible.... but I wouldn't try (just in case).

Hi Kat, Thanks for visiting me. I hope you come back often. I am enjoying your blog. That is a strange looking fungus... I've never seen one before --but with all of the rain we have had this winter, I'm not surprised to see those kinds of things..

Thanks for sharing..
Hugs,
Betsy
